What is Words Aloud?

Words Aloud: a spoken word night for the people of Sheffield (and anyone else who wants to join us, of course!). Up to three minutes to read anything you like!

It’s a celebration of the spoken word for writers – (old hands and first-time writers, dabbling poets, bloggers, copywriters, journalists… all wordsmiths), readers, speakers, or anyone with a passing interest in words who fancies a night out with a difference.

Whether it’s a poem, a script extract, comedy writing, a short story, an advertising strapline, match report, blog or even erm, a recipe for chicken and ham pie – all styles, ages and abilities are welcome.

Words Aloud ran for two years between 2006 and 2008, and now we’re back for one night only on 9 June 2012 at the Lantern Theatre. What’s more, our proceeds go to Roundabout, Sheffield’s brilliant homeless charity. It’s an all-ticket affair and seats are limited, so please book early through the Lantern website!

If you want to read, let us know and we’ll put you down on the list. Again though, do make sure that you get in early! We can’t guarantee that there’ll be space if you ask on the night, even though we will still love you very much.
